Sermon Title: A Picture of Savlation
Scripture: Exodus 14:19-31
Date: June 24, 2018
And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot weels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians." Then the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen." And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. So the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses. (Exodus 14:19-31)
A PICTURE OF SALVATION
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. (Psalm 34:1-3)
Let's see a little of what God does in salvation:
- God provides a pardon
- Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. (Exodus 12:5-7)
- Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:13)
- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
- God provides protection
- God has freed us from the power of darkness, and he brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son. The Son paid for our sins, and in him we have forgiveness. (Colossians 1:13-14, NCV)
- And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night. (Exodus 14:19-20)
- My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." (John 10:27-30)
- For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor power, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
- God provides a path
- Then the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chairiots, and on their horsemen." And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. (Exodus 14:26-29)
- God is the path.
- God provieds the Provider. God provides Himself.
- so the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses. (Exodus 14:30-31)

So the Lord said to Moses: "See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. But Pharaoh will not heed you, so that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judments. And the Egytpians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them." Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the Lord commanded them, so they did. And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Paraoh. (Exodus 7:1-7)
AN EPIC BATTLE
God is greater than anything or anyone that oppresses us.
Let's see three great reasons to let God be the greatest in our lives:
- Only God is truly great and worthy of our trust
- the plagues should make us to "WOW" as we see something of the power of God.
- This is not just a conflict between Moses and Pharaoh; this is a religious conflict between the true God, the God of the Israelites and the false gods of the Egyptians.
- Plagues: 1) blood; 2) frogs; 3) lice or gnats; 4) flies; 5) livestock; 6) boils; 7) hail; 8) locust; 9) darkness; 10) death of firstborn
- "My theme and my theology is, 'God is God. I am not. Hooray!'"
- This shows the futility of trusting in anyone or anything but God.
- Our life choices have consequences
- How we respond to God determines if we receive mercy or punishment.
- Our life choices do have serious consequences.
- The biggest life choice is whether you follow Jesus or not.
- The next biggest life choice is your family choice.
- Why God did it
- The primary motive is God's passionate commitment to magnify His glory in the world.
- But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. (Exodus 9:16)
- God's commitment to his promises.
- God's invitation to be a part of His family.

Sermon Title: Why Not?
Scripture: 2 Kings 7:3-9
Date: June 17, 2018
Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance of the city gates. "Why should we sit here waiting to die?" they asked each other. "We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway." So at twilight they set out for the camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there! For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeeding charios and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. "The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians to attach us!" they cried to oen another. So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives. When the men with leprosy arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after another, eating and drinking wine; and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and hid it. Finally, they said to each other, "This is not right. this is a day of good news, and we aren't sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. com on, let's go back and tell the people at the palace." (2 Kings 7:3-9)

Our grit or strength is a byproduct of our relationship with Jesus.
Learn how to live with a determination to ask, "Why not?" in every situation.
Some time later, however, King Ben-haded of Aram mustered his entire army and besieged Samaria. As a result, there was a great famine in the city. The siege lasted so long that a donkey's head sold for eighty pieces of silver, and a cup of dove's dung sold for five pieces of silver. (2 Kings 6:24-25)
'Why not?' is a helpful question in developing our spiritual grit because it is an:
- Investigative question
- Why not tends to surface the real issue if we will be honest.
- Do we really want to follow Jesus or simply pretend?
- Are you a spectator or a player?
- WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Ask 'Why not?' a lot this week; espeically to things that you suspect God may want you to do.
- "The definition of courage is not a diminishment of fear but our decision to move through fear." -Rick Lawrence
- Intentional question
- If you are thinking about being saved, two of the biggest issues for you is do you know you need to be and do you want to be.
- He want syou to help other people come to Him.
- He wants you to love other people.
- We want to be players in the game not just spectators.
- Asking why not helps us to identify and face our fears instead of skirting them.
- Improvement question
- Finally, they said to each other, "This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren't sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let's go back and tell the people at the palace. (2 Kings 7:9)
- Why not reavelas what's stopping you and brings you to a place of trust.
