Whose Agenda Are You Living For? (John 10:9-11)

Sermon Title: Whose Agenda Are You Living For?

I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.  (John 10:9-11)

 

 

 

I want to urge you to take your life and 100%, as best as you know how, connect with the agenda of Almighty God, who made this world.

I didn't say I want you to plug God into your agenda.

Here are 5 truths to consider as you decide whose agenda you are living for:

1. God's agenda is grace; Satan's agenda is theft
   • The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy  (John 10:10a)
   • Here are a few things Satan likes to steal:
     • joy
     • family
     • witness
     • adventures with Jesus
     • name or integrity
   • If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!  (Matthew 7:11)
   • What kind of gifts does God give?
     • eternal life
     • purpose for your life
     • family
     • Himself
2. God's agenda is unity; Satan's agenda is division
   • The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy  (John 10:10a)
   • "Everything in life happens for a reason!  Now sometimes the reason is you're stupid and made bad decisions!  -Leigh Anne Tuohy
   • I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.  (John 17:20-21)
   • God is about community and Satan is about isolation.
3. God's agenda is truth; Satan's agenda is lies
   • You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.  He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.  But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.  (John 8:44-45)
   • You deserve to be happy.
   • Following Jesus is not any fun.
   • Nobody is going to know.
   • Everybody is doing it.
   • You are going to miss out.
   • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Discuss with someone what lie of the dvil you tend to fall for and what is a good defense against that lie.
4. God's agenda is faith; Satan's agenda is fear
   • Fear of rejection
   • Fear of change
   • Fear of failure
   • Fear of not being enough
   • For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.  (2 Timothy 1:7)
   • But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  (Hebrews 11:6)
5. God's agenda is life; Satan's agenda is death
   • The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  (John 10:10)
   • Will you trust God and His agenda for your life or will you be deceived by the liar or will you decide that you know best?
